--- Non Divers ---
The two questions non divers ask most often are "How long can you stay down there"? and "Aren't you afraid of sharks"?The amount of time a diver can stay under water depends on (1) how big a tank the diver has, (2) how deep the diver is diving, and (3) how efficiently a diver uses air. Typically, all these factors taken together allow a diver to stay "down there" from 30 to 60 minutes.
With regard to sharks the answer is a personal one. However, most divers in this part of the world would state that they are not afraid of sharks. In fact many divers go on special trips and pay extra to see sharks "in the wild".
The primary reason for most divers lack of fear is that the sharks in our waters are relatively harmless. History bears this assessment out with only two recorded incidents of an attack on a diver in Florida waters in the last ten years. In both cases the diver had shot a fish and was swimming on the surface with the fish back to the boat. Perhaps, if we dove in waters frequented by THE GREAT WHITE SHARK, we would answer this question differently.
